Some people dream of moving across the county to living somewhere new and exciting. You are not one of those people, however, because you are packing up and you are making that move. No more big dreams of what it would be like to live in Florida, you are going to go find out yourself. All that you have to do is figure out how to pack everything up and move it over there. Often times that can be one of the most complicated parts of moving from one state to the next, deciding how everything you own is going to come with you. When it comes to this question, there are three main options you have for deciding the best way to move. The first is to rent a truck and drive it to your new home, the second is to hire someone to do it, and the third is to sell everything and start over. Which option is best for you? While let’s break the options all down.
It should be noted that moving from one state to another is a lot different from moving locally. Even if you have moved locally before it doesn’t mean that moving from one state to the other is going to be just as easy. There are a lot of things that need to be considered. Moreso if you have a whole family moving with you.
Moving Yourself: Moving yourself is great because you are in control of everything. It’s also not so great because you have to carry everything yourself from your old home to the truck, and from the truck to your new home. It takes more time, a good deal more effort, and we haven’t even started on the drive from one point to another. First, you need to know how to drive a moving truck. They operate a little differently than a normal vehicle, especially since the overall size and length is so different. You have to know how to take turns or you will be running over curves. Not only can this take down signs and damage the truck, it can damage your items. You don’t want that box of dishes being tossed around because you didn’t take a turn wide enough and hit the curve. On top of that, there are the expenses of the move. You have to pay for the moving truck, the mileage on the truck, the gas for the truck, the food along the way, lodging if you can’t make it in one day, and the normal costs to bring your family vehicle with you as well. Overall it can get pretty frustrating and expensive.
Hiring Someone: Hiring someone frees up many of the issues associated with moving yourself. For one, you don’t have to carry all that heavy furniture to the moving truck you are paying to sit there while you load it up. You still have to do the packing and have to take inventory of your belongings. Even the best of us can make mistakes, and making an inventory of your belongings makes sure nothing is left behind. It also saves you having to drive the truck, or learning how to drive the truck. You just have to worry about getting yourself there. You can enjoy the drive, visit some sites, and not worry about keeping literally everything you own safety. Your family vehicle also costs a lot less than a moving truck. Finally, after making that long drive, you don’t have to deal with unloading a truck. Personally, I don’t feel like even feel like standing after a long drive, much less do the heavy lifting.
Selling Everything: Some people, especially people who don’t have much to move, or have too much to move, will sell most of their belongings before moving. The idea is to sell everything, head to the new location, and buy all new furniture. The good parts of doing this are that you save a lot of money on moving costs, and in fact may make money off it. Sell enough and you don’t even need a moving vehicle, just pack up your vehicle and head out. Being a digital age, you can even order new furniture online and have it waiting for you when you get there. The downside to this will be that used furniture sells for less than new furniture costs. You may have paid $1,000 for that new couch, but you might get $300 for it now, which won’t pay for the $1,000 new couch you need when you get there. You either have to run around and hope you find decently priced used furniture or you have an empty house until you can afford all the new furniture. The other negative is that you might be able to sell everything in a week, or you might advertise it for months before actually moving and not even sell half of it.
Of course, the best course of action also depends on your moving situation. If you don’t have much, either living with a family member or just renting a room, then maybe selling everything really is the best course of action. If you have a family to move across the country, hiring someone would become the better option for you. If you like doing a lot of heavy lifting and driving large trucks then don’t let us stop you from doing it all on your own. If you are looking to hire someone, you can contact Liberty Moving Group.
